Abstract:

The project involves heat transfer and Stress analysis using CFD & FEA methods on the braking process like service braking and emergency braking.  HPI designed disc brake is subjected to thermo-structural simulation. Prior to the thermo-structural analysis, performance of CFD simulation is performed to find the convective heat transfer coefficients of the brake disc for different braking scenarios. Subsequent to this, performance of transient structural analysis will give the stress levels at brake disc. From the stress analysis results, fatigue evaluation for the brake disc under various braking conditions are made. Modal analysis of the newly designed brake is performed to obtain its natural frequencies. The above analyses are performed for the new and worn brake disc conditions given by RDSO.

Applications:

Coupled thermo-structural analysis
